BrightSide Theatre Youth Project Camp 

Based On Our Spring 2018 Production Of

Tuesday, June 27th – Friday, June 30th

At our Rehearsal Space located at 1321 Ogden Avenue in Downers Grove.

  • This camp will work with children going into 3rd grade through senior year in high school to develop and maintain a strong stage presence while singing, dancing and acting for those interested in musical theatre.
  • Using songs and scripts for the 2018 BrightSide Theatre Youth Project production of Disney’s High School Musical, Jr., students will be taught proper technique for their vocal, dance and acting portion of select number(s) for this show culminating with a mini-performance on Friday for the family!

BrightSide Theatre continues its commitment to young artists with the belief that involvement in arts programs increases the development in children on both an academic and social scale while building self-esteem, we designed The BrightSide Theatre Youth Project to provide a professional and educational learning experience for grade school to high school students aged 8-18 interested in exploring musical theater.   In this program, children work directly with professional directors, musical directors, choreographers, designers, and artists to develop their own theatrical skills. (Our staff has/currently works with professional theatres including, Paramount Arts Center, First Folio, Chicago Shakespeare Theater, Broadway in Chicago, Drury Lane Oak Brook.)

Jeffrey Cass (Artistic Director) a Joseph Jefferson Nominee most recently directed Disney’s Beauty and the Beast, SpamalotThe Sound of Music, It’s a Wonderful Life: a Live Radio Play, Cabaret, RENT, Company, BrightSide Theatre’s inaugural production – Run For Your Wife and also for BrightSide Theatre’s Youth Project inaugural production Disney’s Alice in Wonderland, Disney’s The Little Mermaid and Disney’s Aladdin, Legally Blonde, and Thoroughly Modern Mille. He holds a B.F.A. in Musical Theater Performance from Roosevelt University where he also studied lighting design and stage management. He previously served as the Producing Director for Circle Theatre where he directed The Who’s Tommy (6 Joseph Jefferson Nominations including Best Musical and Best Director) Neil LaBute’s Bash and The Distance From Here (Midwest Premier), Burning Blue (Midwest Premier), Crazy for You, Beauty and the Beast, Thoroughly Modern Millie, Urinetown, Peter Pan and New Plays Festival .

Sarah Giordano (Musical Director) earned her Bachelor’s Degree in Instrumental Music Education from Eastern Illinois University and a Master’s Degree in Choral Music Education from VanderCook College of Music. Currently, Sarah is in her 15th year as a music educator. She teaches general music, directs the choirs and the musical at Jackson Middle School in Villa Park, Illinois. Sarah consistently serves as a choral clinician, adjudicator, and music director.  Previous BrightSide Theatre credits include Spamalot, Disney’s Beauty and the Beast, Thoroughly Modern Millie and will musically direct Disney’s High School Musical.

Jeni Donahue (Choreographer) is a professional choreographer from Joliet who earned her BFA in Dance and Vocal performance from Columbia College.  Jeni has been dancing since age 6 and choreographing professionally for 25 years.  She has worked with all age levels and abilities and has been heavily involved in every aspect of dance including Musical Theatre, Pom squads, competitive cheerleading and dance troupes, color guard, music videos and show choir.  Her groups, in all areas, have won numerous awards for choreography, design and visual effect.  Jeni is sought after as a clinician, adjudicator and guest speaker at competitions and events throughout the United States.  She is currently on staff for over 47 High Schools, 20 Universities and 12 various Theatre companies all over the U.S.  Jeni was honored to choreograph Illinois All State productions of Ragtime (2005), Urinetown (2010) & Into the Woods (2011).  She has also recently gotten into directing as well and has directed productions of Rocky Horror and American Idiot regionally.  She is very excited to return to work with BrightSide for her 4th season.  Past BrightSide choreography credits include: Cabaret, Aladdin Jr, Sound of Music, Legally Blonde Jr, Spamalot, Disney’s Beauty and the Beast, Thoroughly Modern Millie Jr and the upcoming Disney’s High School Musical.
